Entertainment industry icon M. Nasir is suing Grab-owned MyTeksi Sdn Bhd, alleging that the company used his commercial name without consent to market products on its platform.

The legendary singer-songwriter, whose real name is Datuk Mohd Nasir Mohamed, together with his company Luncai Emas Sdn Bhd, filed the suit at the High Court, naming MyTeksi as the sole defendant, reported New Straits Times.

According to the report, M. Nasir claimed that MyTeksi had used the “M. Nasir” name and brand in connection with the sale and promotion of beverages marketed under the label “Kegemaran M. Nasir” without obtaining his permission.

The plaintiffs are seeking an injunction to prevent the company, including its agents and employees, from continuing any alleged misuse, misrepresentation or exploitation of the M. Nasir brand for commercial purposes.

They are also seeking a court order requiring MyTeksi to disclose, within seven days, the profits allegedly generated from beverages sold under the “Kegemaran M. Nasir” branding through its platform.

In addition, M. Nasir and Luncai Emas are seeking damages to be assessed by the court or an account of profits derived from the sales, alongside general damages, interest and legal costs.

The plaintiffs are also claiming RM3 million in exemplary damages and RM2 million in aggravated damages, bringing the total amount sought to more than RM5 million.
