The FIFA World Cup 2026 kicked off to an exciting start on 12 June and Malaysians were pumped up to watch the world’s most popular sport on either Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) or Unifi TV, the only official local broadcasters that are airing all 104 matches.
However, some have raised questionable video streaming quality as well as live feed delays on the two platforms.
“The quality on RTM is lacking. Hopefully Unifi TV will not be like this. We want Full HD for World Cup like Astro did in 2022,” one Threads user said.
A few people have also complained about live feed delays between RTM and Unifi’s broadcasting services.
Another user on Threads claimed that the MYTV digital TV service has the least or no delays at all when watching the World Cup live, while the RTMKlik app has a 25 to 30 second delay from the match’s real time. He also claimed that Unifi TV has a delay of roughly one minute.

Some experienced missing broadcasts when they try to watch the match on TV through an Android Box (a TV box device that allows you to stream from platforms like Netflix, Disney+) even though it works on their smartphones and tablet devices.
There was also some confusion as to which of the platforms are streaming all the matches live.
To put it simply, Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) is airing selected matches live, and the remainder on a delayed basis. Malaysians can access these broadcasts through:
TV broadcast: RTM channels TV1, TV2, and TV Okey on the free-to-air MYTV.
Online streaming: On the RTMKlik website or mobile app, free for all Malaysians.
Government app: The MyGOV app (requires MyDigital ID).
Meanwhile, pay-TV service Unifi TV is broadcasting all 104 matches live. The coverage is available to both subscribers and non-subscribers with the full season pass at RM60 for non-subscribers and RM50 for existing Unifi TV customers. A daily pass is priced at RM20.

Not everyone had complaints, though. Many said the streaming quality on RTM’s platforms were just fine for them to enjoy the matches. They expressed that some compromises need to be made since RTM is airing selected matches for free.
Previously, Astro was the official broadcaster of the FIFA World Cup in 2022. It aired all 64 matches including 37 exclusive games with comprehensive 4K HDR coverage on dedicated channels and on-the-go viewing via the Astro GO app.
