For most badminton players, becoming world number one would be the ultimate dream.
For Malaysia’s top men’s doubles pair, however, it is just another stop on a much bigger journey.
Professional shuttlers Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani have made it clear that they are far from satisfied with what they have achieved so far. Despite reaching the pinnacle of the world rankings and collecting some of badminton’s biggest titles, the duo insist there is still plenty left to accomplish, including competing at the Olympic Games.
Speaking recently at an AIA media event, the pair admitted that while their rise has been remarkable, they are still chasing bigger goals and do not want to be remembered as a pair that peaked too early. Their focus now is on maintaining consistency, winning more major tournaments, and securing a place on badminton’s grandest stage.
And honestly, who can blame them?
After all, the last two years have been nothing short of a fairy tale for the pair affectionately known by Malaysian badminton fans as “FeiDin”.
A Golden Run Continues
Fresh from their latest triumph at the Indonesia Open 2026, Sze Fei and Izzuddin have once again reminded the badminton world why they remain among the sport’s most dangerous doubles combinations.
Their victory in Jakarta was particularly special. The win ended Malaysia’s 18-year wait for a men’s doubles title at the prestigious tournament, making them the first Malaysian pair to lift the Indonesia Open crown since 2008. They came from behind in the final to defeat home favourites Raymond Indra and Nikolaus Joaquin, showing the fighting spirit that has become their trademark.
The Indonesia Open success added another impressive chapter to an already memorable 2026 season. Earlier this year, they captured the Indonesia Masters title and also reached the final of the Malaysia Masters.
Their performances have convinced many observers that they could be genuine contenders for the World Championships and future Olympic medals if they continue on their current trajectory.
From Junior Prospects To World Beaters
What makes their story even more interesting is that Sze Fei and Izzuddin have been playing together for nearly a decade.
Both born in 1997, the pair emerged through Malaysia’s badminton development system and began attracting attention as teenagers. They reached their first major final together at the Malaysia Masters in 2017 before gradually establishing themselves on the international circuit.
Their breakthrough came in 2022 when they won the German Open, claiming their first BWF World Tour title. It was the moment many believed they were ready to challenge the world’s elite.
Like many sporting partnerships, however, their journey was not always smooth.
In 2023, the pair briefly split up after struggling for form and confidence. Many wondered if the partnership had run its course. Instead, they reunited later that year with renewed determination and a shared goal of returning to the top.
That decision proved to be a masterstroke.
Since reuniting, they have won multiple international titles, climbed the rankings, and even reached world number one in 2025, a milestone that placed them among the most successful Malaysian doubles pairs of their generation.
Smash It With #FeiDin

Sze Fei and Izzuddin were appointed as health insurance company AIA Malaysia’s Health and Wellness Ambassadors in September 2025.
As ambassadors, they support AIA Malaysia in promoting a proactive approach to health by engaging communities and sharing insights from their experience as professional athletes. Competing at the highest level internationally, the duo exemplify how long-term wellbeing is built through consistency, discipline, and healthy habits.

Smash It With #FeiDin was an exclusive media badminton session organised in conjunction with AIA Vitality’s 10th year anniversary celebration.
The event gave members of the media the opportunity to learn badminton technique, as well as a friendly match with the pros through a relaxed platform to experience fitness in an accessible and enjoyable way.

The Best May Be Yet To Come
For many athletes, becoming world number one would be the perfect ending.
For Sze Fei and Izzuddin, it is simply the beginning of a new chapter.
The duo know that badminton fans will ultimately judge them by their performances at the biggest events: the World Championships and the Olympics. With their confidence growing, their chemistry stronger than ever, and major titles already under their belt, there is every reason to believe they can achieve those ambitions.
Malaysia has waited a long time for another Olympic badminton champion.
If Sze Fei and Izzuddin continue playing the way they have been, that dream may not be as far away as it once seemed.
